| Ames Jr., Thomas – FISHBUGS (The Aquatic Insects of an Eastern Fly Fisher) – 2005 1st edition – 144p – Countryman, Woodstock – The author lets his photographic skills take center stage. His bigger-than-life studies of mayflies, caddisflies, and other waterborne insects, captured in extra ordinary detail, allow you to see them as never before. Fly tyers will appreciate them as models for their imitations, while naturalists and other lovers of fine photography will admire them for their intrinsic beauty. His thoughtful prose examines the special characteristics that keep these fascinating insects at the heart of the angler’s gentle art and underscores their value as indicators of the health of our inland waters. – As New - $40.00 | Click here for pictures |
| Angler’s Club of New York – ANGLER’S CLUB BULLETIN (Vol. V11., No. 3) – 1928 – What’s not to love about these historic little collectibles? The articles are written by what truly reads like a who’s who list of the angling world’s luminaries. When you open this old gem, you are greeted first by a cover picture of George LaBranche showing the editor how to catch trout on the Kennet followed with a 6 1/2 page article by the old man himself; G.E.M. Skues. This is followed by an article about the Brodhead of the Henryville House fame. Also articles by Ed Hewitt, George Parker Holden, a note from Henry Van Dyke, a letter from the then president Henry A. Ingraham author of the classic “American Trout Streams” and includes some delightful tongue-in-cheek poetry. I personally find these bulletins to be a wistful look back at the golden age of trout fishing. – excellent condition for a 80 year old softcover - $100.00 . | Click here for pictures |

There is an article by Ed Hewitt entitled Wintering Trout in Streams, another article by Dr. George Parker Holden of “The Idyl of the Split Bamboo” fame entitled A Chronology of the Angling Rod. Ed Hewitt chimes in with an article entitled; The New Catskill Aqueduct Project. A book review by none other than Eugene Connett critiquing Hewitt’s “Better Trout Streams” among others. Other articles include a tongue-in-cheek article by F.W. Randebrock; The Flies Have It, Dr. George Parker Holden offers Tying The Bivisible and gracing the inside back cover is a wonderful and historic photo of Hewitt’s camp on the Neversink complete with a line-up of the camp’s members. | Bashline, James L. – NIGHT FISHING FOR TROUT – 1973 1st edition – 159p – Freshet Press, Rockville Centre, NY – I knew Jim Bashline personally, and you have my word on this, Jim was the real thing, a well know PA. master angler who became the editor of Field & Stream. The following excerpt from the book pretty well describes the contents of this work: “Your favorite trout stream has a side you may never have seen. Most fishermen think that the average stream contains at best only moderate-sized trout. A few hours spent exploring the fascinatingly changed world of the night-time trout steam would make them see things differently. Regardless of fishing pressure, every trout stream has big trout in some of its stretches, and big trout feed mostly at night. There comes a time in every season when stream temperatures reach a critical point and conditions become just right to put trout on the prowl at night. When this magic moment arrives, the season’s best fishing can be had - by the handful of specialists who know the excitement and pleasures of taking trout after dark. The slick tail of a large pool that seems empty of life during the heat of the day often boils with trophy-size trout at night. Night Fishing can help you take them.” – Signed by Author - Book is very fine in near fine dust jacket with two small scratches. - $50.00 | Click here for pictures |
