Baker Jr., Palmer R. - THE SWEET OF THE YEAR
– 1965 1st edition – 127p – Morrow, NY
– Only a very few angling authors have had the ability to put
into words the feelings we all share for fly fishing and nature in general,
this author had that skill down to a science. For example: On an April
evening the wind comes softly from the south. The angler reaches the
countryside with his friends. Stepping from the car, he smells the damp
earth and feels the wind. Then suddenly the sweetness is upon him. From
the pools and swamp meadow across the road he hears the peepers, the
little frogs of spring, singing as though their hearts and lungs would
break." R. Palmer Baker Jr.. The author share his tales of fly
fishing throughout the northeast and Canada with much on the Catskills.
His lovely prose is no doubt why this book is so popular and I am unable
to keep a copy in stock. Hailed by Bruns as “Lovely writing and
a sweet book to read.” Sadly we have lost this kindly old gentleman
to the march of time, but his words will live on. – Scarce and
Collectible -Book is fine in a very good unclipped dust jacket with
very minor edge wear. - $90.00 |
