He actually teaches the reader how to identify the maker and approximately year the rod was made, by explaining what to look for such as the ferrule type, reel-seat, guides and other features of a rod related to each individual craftsman. This is a pleasant book to read, but much more important, it is a book that you will return to for reference time and time again.
