McDonald, John – THE COMPLETE FLY FISHERMAN (The Notes and Letters of Theodore Gordon) – 1947 1st edition – 552p – Scribner & Sons, NY – Theodore Gordon is perhaps the most famous of all American fly fishermen. Probably best known for introducing dry fly fishing with flies specifically tyed to be fished dry, as opposed to others who may have fished flies on the surface that were not actuallys tyed to float. Gordon until his death in 1915, was recognized as America’s leading angling authority of his time. Never having written a book, his writings which appeared in now extinct angling journals, old files and undiscovered caches of tremendously important historic correspondences with the likes of Halford and Skues would have been lost to angling’s literary heritage had it not been for the foresight and perseverance of this author. The effort expended along with the preparation of this book is truly worth a book of its own.
This is a seminal work which belongs in the library of all serious anglers and is an absolute necessity for those who enjoy the history of angling. – book is fine in a pretty darn good, notoriously fragile dust jacket. - $150.00
