– ATLANTIC SALMON FISHING – 1937
1st Derrydale Limited to 950 Copies Edition – 193p – Designed
and printed by Eugene Connett, this book is one of the most,
if not the most, desired collectible of all the Derrydale angling books.
And this particular copy is an exceptionally handsome copy. This copy
comes resting in an attractive matching green clam-shell box
with red label and gilt title. As you can see by viewing
the photos, the covers are original ribbed green cloth, with gilt spine
titles and decoration, and adorned with gilt decorated canoe motif borders
on the upper cover. Beautifully illustrated (a total of sixty nine) by
the great sporting artists Ogden Pleissner and Robert Nesbet. There
are six color plates from watercolor paintings by Pleissner signed in
pencil by the artist and each is complete with tissue guard. Includes
two more unsigned full color plates, two etchings and two maps, one being
a fold-out. Also a black & white plate depicting fly
tying. The text includes chapters describing the Salmon Waters of New
Brunswick, Quebec, Nova Scotia, Newfoundland, Labrador, Anticosti Island
as well as Maine and Iceland, Selection of Guides, Tackle, Flies and their
Uses, and both Wet and Dry Flies. The author also interestingly mentions
that most of the best pools in Canada are controlled by Americans. –
This is an exceptionally nice copy of a very collectible Derrydale
with the only sign of wear being a slight sunning of the spine, obviously
book shelf induced. The illustrations and text are bright and clear with
absolutely no spotting or marks of any kind. This beautiful copy would
sell elsewhere for much more than. - $575.00 |
