Younger, John – RIVER ANGLING (For Salmon and Trout, with a Memoir of the Author: Together with a Treatise on the Salmon, and a list of the Tweed Salmon Casts) – 1995 Fly Fisher’s Classic Library printing of the 1864 expanded edition of the 1840 1st. – 222p – John Younger shook the angling world when he penned this classic. The life he had led left him little time for any formal education. These were hard times as his family had struggled just to keep food on the table. As an adult, John labored as a shoemaker, not a trade conducive to acquiring writing skills. Nonetheless obviously a very intelligent man, he read extensively and began to write poetry and later angling articles and finally this highly regarded classic work. The author, who’s angling skills were legendary, eventually found his workshop had become a gathering place for serious anglers where stories were exchanged along with angling methods and techniques. How nice it would be to have been there. This was Sparse Grey Hackle’s favorite angling book and he literally begged publishers to make the book available at a sensible price as the 1st and 2nd editions as collector’s items, were very expensive. Simply put, this is a good book. – Book is almost as new. - $75.00
